The garden: Background
High standard holiday rentals in Perros Guirec – Au Neuf Mille residence
From 2012 to date
It all began in 2012 when the ground was being cleared prior to building the Au Neuf Mille residence.
We were intrigued by the huge blocks of pink granite. We uncovered one overfall, then another, water channels and pipes along “Le Kerduel” stream. We soon realized that our plot of land housed the millrace for the Pont-Couennec watermill which dated back to the 1810s. We decided to bring the millrace back to life by building a stone weir and creating a freshwater pool.
The water level in the pool varies with the changing flow of the stream which is dependent on local rainfall. The overflow from the large pool is directed to a second freshwater pool with an outlet to the stream, and potentially back to the watermill The primary function of the large pool was to collect overflow from the Kerduel at flood level.
